cactus bags

2020- · Worldwide

fig. 001

A range of bags made from cactus leather, recycled seatbelts, and upcycled fabric. Cactus leather sourced from Mexico. Currently in production.

fig. 002

These cactus leather bags were designed by Casa Tamarindo and handmade in Mexico with local artisans. Each piece combines three materials: Desserto cactus leather — soft, durable, grown from nopal in Mexico — for the body; recycled seatbelts pulled from junkyards in Tijuana for the straps; and upcycled fabric, sourced from offcuts and deadstock, for the lining.

fig. 003

The range covers totes and smaller bags. Each piece is a different combination of the three materials, depending on what comes in that week. No two are identical.

A second run is in production now.
